Flora and Fauna in the area.

Allendale is in the North Pennines officially designated an Area of Outstanding Beauty and UNESCO European and Global Geopark. This special landscape has been shaped by millions of years of natural processes and centuries of mining and farming. It's a wonderful mix of open country, moor and dale. You can cycle or walk for mile upon mile and see more wildlife than human inhabitants. Wild life includes rarities such as the red squirrel. You can hear the call of the curlew and lapwing overhead, and possibly see a peregrine falcon or goshawk. Flora includes spring gentian and orchids. There are a growing number of hay meadows and hay walks.
